Growing up, my granny loved and ate grapefruit regularly. Although I'm a HUGE fan of the citrus fruit group, grapefruit has always been last on the list for me. I was over a friend's house recently and she was looking through a cookbook and mentioned broiling grapefruit. I don't know what happened, but I was instantly interested and scribbled "grapefruit" to my grocery list.
Come to find out, this recipe was fantastic. I don't know if it's because it's warm when served or the caramelized brown sugar I topped it with, but I'm hooked! And it's quick to make, so extra brownie points for you, broiled grapefruit.
Ingredients:
- Grapefruit
- a few teaspoons of brown sugar
- a sprinkle of salt
Cut a grapefruit in half. I sliced a small sliver of skin off the bottom to make the grapefruit stand up straight and not wobble all over the pan. Put about a teaspoon of brown sugar on the top of each of the halves. Sprinkle a little salt on top then pop in the over and broil until the brown sugar starts bubbling, about 7-10 minutes. Serve warm immediately.
Enjoy!
